WE MADE IT!!
FINALLY we are in Bolivia!! the past few days have been full of lots of chaos, lots of laughter, and even more learning more about God and how His love is never ending and ever abounding in grace. We have spent our days chatting through various orientations, training sessions, and preparing for our first team that arrived today. it’s been a crazy few days and it honestly feels like we have been in Bolivia for three weeks instead of three days. BUT we still have a long way to go, and we are so excited and expectant for what God has in store for the rest of the summer!!
this trip started off with a BEAUTIFUL weekend in sunny (and hot!) West Palm Beach, Florida, where we spent time with CIN founders (the Hernandez fam – all so sweet and so welcoming) learning more about what we will be doing throughout the summer and also just spending time getting to know each other. almost all of the interns are here, with the exception of a couple others who will be joining us in a couple weeks!
Monday night, we were off! we had a long 6-hour flight from Miami to Santa Cruz. coolest thing: we were all assigned to row 35 of our plane only to discover that there were only 34 rows SO we were bumped to business class where we each had our own row to stretch out and sleep! God was looking out for us already, and it was a great encouragement as we headed into the unknown!
we arrived at 5am in Santa Cruz and we all sat at a cute coffee shop in the airport til our 7am flight to Cochabamba. we watched the sunrise while planes took off and drank coffee and it was a beautiful welcome to Bolivia.
we met up with Ashlen and Ronny, our ‘host parents’ who will be with us all summer, and Dany, who is from Honduras and is in charge of multimedia (he and Ronny have a blossoming bromance. stay tuned for this love story as there will be many stories, I’m sure.) we hopped on the bus to head to the BLC, and lo and behold, there were blockades throughout the city!! every single road to the BLC was blocked and we were stuck on this bus for about 4 hours. nevertheless, we all used this time to bond and nap and eat and laugh. we were able to eat lunch at the Pastor’s house by the church, which was so sweet considering how last minute it was! finally the blockades had been lifted and we set out to the life center. we arrived and spent the next few hours settling in and relaxing. we had a short orientation with Allie and Gerson (our administrators) and hit the hay!
yesterday we spent the majority of our time preparing for our team that arrived today. we went grocery shopping and loaded up SO. MANY. CARTS. with a ton of food and drinks for the week! we also cleaned up the apartment and briefly saw some of the boys. it was a long but productive day!
this morning the team from Greeneville, TN, arrived and already they have been such a light to this place! we spent time with the boys, sorted donations brought by the team (praise!!), and really got to know them. they are doing sessions with the staff here so we got to watch Zootopia in Spanish with all the boys tonight! so fun and so much popcorn thrown everywhere.
these few days have been so blessed and joyous that it’s hard for me to believe that we have an entire summer still to look forward to!! thanks to all for prayers and continued support. your prayers are felt and received and we are so grateful for each of you!! keep checking out this page for more updates, I will try as often as I can to write. Dios se bendiga!
